FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

If you have booked a professional hair and/or makeup session with one of our recommended hairstylists or makeup artist, and are curious about preparations for your big day, settle in, grab a cup of tea, and let's explore how to best ready yourself for your upcoming appointment.

Step 1: Effective Communication

Before anything else, it's important to share any specific needs with your stylist before your visit. You may do this through text, email, or a call, depending on what you find convenient. Key information your stylist might require includes:

  • Allergies or Sensitivities: Inform them of any known allergies or if you’ve reacted to certain products previously. Those with severe allergies are welcome to bring their own trusted products. Let your stylist know ahead if you plan to do so.

  • Hair Extensions: Mention if you have permanent extensions or need temporary clip-ins for the day when requesting a quote or before booking. This could influence the cost or time required for your hairstyle. If you need advice on what extensions to purchase or where, your stylist can guide you.

  • Time Constraints: If your schedule is tight, inform your stylist in advance to allow them to plan accordingly.

  • Specialised Products: If your desired look involves specific techniques or products like face paint, certain glitter eyeshadow colours, or extra-long lashes, inform them during the quote request. There might be additional charges for specialised items.

  • Parking Details at Your Location: Discuss any preferred parking areas beforehand to streamline the process. You might need cash to cover any parking costs your stylist incurs.

Step 2: Prep Like a Pro!

The Night Before:

  • Hair Washing: Wash your hair the evening before and avoid applying leave-in conditioners or other hair products.

  • Blow Dry: Dry your hair upside down to add volume at the roots, and leave it loose if possible.

  • Avoid Heat Styling Tools: Refrain from using curling irons or straighteners (except for a hairdryer), as they can set your hair cuticles into place and make it difficult to style into a different shape.

The Morning Of:

  • Facial Cleansing: Cleanse your face but refrain from applying products like moisturisers. Your makeup artist will have their own preferred products that will work cohesively with their cosmetic formulations.

  • Hair Handling: Keep your hair loose or tie it gently with a soft scrunchie to avoid kinks.

  • Suitable Clothing: Opt for an old button-up shirt that won't have to be pulled off over your newly styled hair and won't rub against your makeup.

Step 3: What to Bring to Your Appointment

Gather some reference images to clearly convey your desired look. Selecting images of individuals with similar skin tones and features may help ensure the style suits you.

  • Outfit and Accessories: Share images of your outfit and jewellery, and for weddings, fabric samples and bouquet pictures can be helpful for aligning the overall theme and look.

Step 4: Setting Up the Room

At home, many essentials will be available. In hotels or other venues, ask the concierge for:

  • A lower chair suitable for hairstyling

  • A taller chair or bar stool for makeup

  • Cleared table space for your stylist’s tools

  • Adequate lighting - a well-lit area with natural light is ideal, but many stylists will bring portable lights too

  • A well-ventilated room to manage hairspray use

  • Access to running water and power outlets for styling tools

Step 5: Bonus Tips

  • Hydration: Drink water leading up to the appointment for healthy skin and better makeup application.

  • Sleep: Rest well the night before to minimise under-eye puffiness and dark circles.

  • Exfoliation: Exfoliate a day or two prior to eliminate dead skin cells, but stick to tried and tested products to prevent adverse reactions.

Step 6: Embrace the Pampering

You’re all set to enjoy transforming into the most beautiful version of yourself! Get excited, relax, and let your talented hair and makeup artist create a flawless look you'll love.

Enjoy!
